FAQ

  1. Why should I get my gutters cleaned?   Debris in your open gutters is a fire hazard. Standing water in gutters is a breeding ground for bacteria, mold and insects, which can carry disease. Acorns and leaves attract pests and other critters. Debris and standing water cause excess weight and failure of mounting hardware. Failed spikes can cause the wood to strip and warp, and allow water to seep into the vital structural wood of your home. Water can also spill over to the ground and into your foundation causing cracks and basement flooding.
  2. What are window panes?   Panes are the individual medium or large pieces of glass in a window frame. Most windows have one or two panes but are not limited. Small panes individually divided with frames sometimes called French panes are pictured in image to the right.
  3. Are Solar Panels cleaned the same as windows?   Similar, but we use a soap formulated just for solar panels. Keeping your solar panels clean will maximize the photovoltaic potential.
  4. Can I get my clogged up LeafGuard gutters cleaned?   Yes, we can get them flowing again.
  5. What Are Those Black Stains On The Roof?   Those black stains are Algae
  6. How Does A Roof Get Moss And Algae In The First Place?   Airborne spores spread algae from one infected roof to another. Ask your neighbors to treat their roof too.
  7. How Does It Grow?   Algae require moisture (dew and rain) and the right temperatures to grow.
  8. What treatments should I NOT do?   Do not power wash the roof to clean the asphalt shingles. It may dislodge the granules which can lead to premature shingle failure and shorten the life of your investment in roofing.
  9. Is Using Low Pressure a good solution?   What is meant by low pressure? 500-1000psi is too much and will blast off too many granules. Any more pressure than 100psi is excessive. Even in time rain will wash off some granules. Please do Not pressure washer your roof.
  10. Can the Moss Treatment hurt my grass? We have been doing this for years and the only time we encountered newly laid grass to be affected. It yellowed a 2 foot by 1 foot patch.
  11. How should my asphalt roof be cleaned of Moss and Algae? See our Moss Treatment Page.
  12. Why Does The Moss And Algae Grow On The North and East Sides Of The Roof? Those two side get the least amount of Sun exposure.
  13. Why should I clean my windows when it is just going to rain?  It is the dust in the air that sticks to the glass and then rain runs down the dirt leaving drip marks. Rain doesn’t dirty the windows, it actually beads off the windows when we clean them with our professional soap. Contrary to one’s belief, winter is a great time to have your windows cleaned.
  14. Is it true clean windows improve the feng shui of my house?   Once you start keeping your windows clean you will feel the difference. Windows are like the windows to the home’s soul.

Window pane counting guide

Service Vocabulary

WINDOW CLEANING

Cut-ups – Usually 1′ x 1′ window panes and embosses in individual frames.

French Pane – Tiny panes of glass usually about 12″ tall and about 9″ wide that are built into French doors or windows.

Garden Box Window – A cleaning of a garden window which is a projecting, three-sided window that usually includes a shelf, a glass top and/or a single-hung or casement window on each side.

Hard Water Mineral Stain Removal – This is not included in a standard window cleaning. It requires hand buffing with a compound to remove the mineral stains. The removal of this type of glass damage from water that is full of minerals such as calcium, magnesium, metal cations, and other compounds such as sulfates and bicarbonates. When “hard water” is on glass for a period of time, it can form water spots that are unsightly and hard to get rid of. They look like small white barnacles. These spots can even cause irreparable damage to your windows if you don’t get rid of them quickly. In time they will actually burrow into the glass. Data Sheet

Mirror Cleaning – Bathroom and bedroom mirror cleaning.

(New) Construction Clean-up Glass Cleaning – The removal of paint overspray, silicone, and glass manufacturer’s stickers the first time new windows are cleaned.

Shower Door Water Spot Cleaning – See Hard Water Mineral Stain Removal for cleaning understanding.

Skylight cleaning – Windows embedded in roof systems that allow natural light into living space. Pricing is separate for interior and exterior cleaning of skylight(s).

*** If your skylights haven't been cleaned in a long while, sometimes once the dirt is removed you will find the seals have failed and the skylights look to have streaks or a cloudiness. This is between the two panes and can't be cleaned. They would need to be replaced in order to restore a completely clear and clean appearance.

Solar Pane Cleaning – Cleaning solar panels with correct solar panel soap. Data Sheet

Solarium Glass – Cleaning of Sunroom glass, Glass Rooms, and Glass Enclosures.

Storm window cleaning – When additional windows are fitted over the outside of an ordinary windows to add insulation against wind, cold and noise.

▪We no longer clean between Storm windows. We don’t remove them or put them back. If you have a contractor or maintenance person that removes them and reinstalls them we can clean the panes from a safe place.

Tempered Glass – Extreme caution should be taken when cleaning tempered glass. Most tempered windows but, not all, tend to scratch much easier than normal windows. The reason is due to the rough imperfections that were created in the hardening process. If you were to look through a magnified lens, the imperfections will look like tiny pimples.

Wind Break Window Cleaning – Clean the inside and outside of glass on deck.

Window screen cleaning – The screen to keep insects & animals from entering living space from an open window.

Window Track Cleaning – When window tracks need more than a wipe up to clean.

GUTTER CLEANING

Exterior Gutter Cleaning – This is the face of the gutter that is seen when looking at the side of the home or building.

Fix Clogged Downspout – If the downspout elbow is clogged beyond the drain hole it will require removing the downspout to clear it out.

Gutter Screen Installation – These are wire or plastic baskets that wedge into the top of the downspout that keeps large leaves and debris from clogging the mouth of the downspout and underground drain system.

LeafGuard Cleaning – The problem with leaf guard gutter systems in the Northwest is we have pine needles that can roll into the small opening under the top lip. When your LeafGaurd gutters get clogged with pine nettles and debris under the one piece gutter system, we will get them guarding your leaves again.

Moss Treatment – Moss termination/kill/control application is an application of zinc that when applied on live moss will dehydrate and remove it. This process can take 10-13 weeks but you will see the dying process within two weeks of the first rain.

Roof Valley Cleaning – The valley where two roof planes meet each other. Often leaves and Debris collects here.

Roof Drain on Flat Roof – A roof drain is a method of draining a roof assembly where the water runoff from the roof is transferred through the roof drain into piping that runs through the interior of the building before it empties either onto grade or into a storm sewer. In most cases, roof drains are also installed in such a way that prevents water from leaking out of the drain in the event that there is a clog somewhere in the drain line.

Scupper Cleaning – Scupper is a detail that provides drainage to a roof system by allowing the water runoff from the roof to exit the roof through a metal edge, parapet wall or through the deck into a downspout or leader not run through the interior of the building. If a roof scupper becomes blocked or clogged and prevents water from draining from the roof surface this could cause ponding or roof leaks. Cleaning and checking your roof drainage system should be done at least once a year.
